OnePlanetCapital makes investment into zero emission delivery company – Zedify

We are delighted to have completed our most recent investment in to a business called Zedify. We are backing Rob King (CEO) and Sam Kean (CMO) the founders of Zedify and are excited to support their vision of disruption in the delivery market bringing high levels of environmental impact.

About the business

Zedify provides zero emission deliveries via e cargo bikes within urbanised city structures. Zedify’s e cargo bikes are optimised for busy urban environments and their model of consolidation deliveries centred on micro hubs within cities allows for narrow delivery timeframes that large couriers don’t or can’t provide customers.

The market background

The e-commerce delivery market continues to grow strongly as shoppers transition more and more of their buying online, compounded by the dynamics of COVID.  Heavy congestion in city centres is making last mile delivery prohibitive for traditional delivery firms as diesel vans sit in standstill traffic for a handful of deliveries  Environmental controls are increasing as pollution continues to rise with many city councils pursuing congestion charging variants to improve air quality

The OnePlanetCapital verdict

Given the congestion and pollution in cities, we believe it is inevitable that city centres will eventually be a no go area for polluting large vehicles. Zedify is positioned uniquely to benefit from these major changes in the delivery market with its nimble zero emissions delivery. This coupled with a great team & strong first mover advantage position us to believe this a great investment opportunity.

Environmental Impact

Zedify’s business creates high levels of positive environmental impact. Each one of its deliveries on an ebike is displacing a diesel van sat in traffic with a near 100% reduction in emissions achieved by each e bike delivery vs a diesel delivery van. Zedify are currently removing 600,000 van journeys annually which has been a fundamental contributor  to the business generating 400 tonnes in CO2 savings per year thus far. Given the future growth expected this positive impact will increase in tandem.
