OnePlanetCapital Sustainable EIS Fund makes inaugural investments

Exciting times as OnePlanetCapital, the Sustainability EIS Fund, will make its first investments into a series of exciting companies that bridge strong potential investor returns with climate change impact.

The fund identifies strong investor opportunities in three subsectors; companies combating climate change, companies making a positive impact on the environment & consumer facing companies

The first company the fund will invest in is RAD Propulsion. An electric marine propulsion business. RAD was formed in 2018 to develop high quality systems for all types of marine applications using the expertise of naval architects, systems engineers and automotive experts.

The business has a mission to be the standout brand in electric marine propulsion for boat builders, commercial operators and discerning leisure boat customers. 2 engines are market ready with the first units being deployed August/September 2021. 2 more engine formats will follow in 2022. The company has both B2B and B2C channels planned. The business also has a strong technology platform with motors linked to user apps for control and management.

The OnePlanetCapital verdict

The existing electrical propulsion market is already £12bn USD in revenues. With a dead end to the diesel market there is enormous growth potential for companies in this space and considerable M&A potential helping to drive exits.  RAD has early mover advantage in a market where incumbents are moving very slowly. The management team and support team are of exceptional calibe in terms of their ability to execute this strategy.

Impact

Marine EV has lots of ambient advantages for the environment, it is clean, nonpolluting and silent. But from a pure emissions perspective each unit sold reduces Co2 emissions by 900kg with moderate usage. If the business hits plan this would mean 13,000 units sold per year with carbon removal of 11,700 tonnes per annum (assuming a clean electricity source).
